Update to CakePHPv5

• RADIUSdesk has been under constant development for more than a decade.
• It uses CakePHP as a web app that generates JSON data which in turn is displayed on an ExtJs GUI.
• Over the years the CakePHP framework also has been under constant development.
• We started out probably on version 2 and then moved to version 3 and version 4 as time went on.
• As of September 2026 CakePHPv4 will stop getting security updates (https://github.com/cakephp/cakephp/wiki)
• Since we are committed to provide a stable and current system, we are moving on to CakePHPv5.
• This will be a drop-in replacement of the CakePHPv4 web app and should be transparent to your users and systems. (API remains the same)

• These instructions are applicable for systems that has RADIUSdesk already installed on Ubuntu version 24.04 and 26.04.
• Check out the CakePHPv5 API back-end application

cd /var/www/
sudo git clone https://github.com/RADIUSdesk/rd_cake5.git

• Remove the old soft links:

cd /var/www/html
sudo rm ./cake4
sudo rm ./reporting

• Create the new soft links:

sudo ln -s ../rd_cake5 ./cake4
sudo ln -s ../rd_cake5/rd_cake/setup/scripts/reporting ./reporting

• Create directories:

sudo mkdir -p  /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/logs
sudo mkdir -p /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/files/imagecache
sudo mkdir -p /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/tmp

• Copy the old images over:

sudo cp -R /var/www/rdcore/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/realms/* /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/realms/
sudo cp -R /var/www/rdcore/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/dynamic_details/* /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/dynamic_details/
sudo cp -R /var/www/rdcore/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/dynamic_photos/* /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/dynamic_photos/
sudo cp -R /var/www/rdcore/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/access_providers/* /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/access_providers/
sudo cp -R /var/www/rdcore/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/hardwares/* /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/hardwares/

• Change the ownership:

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/tmp
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/logs
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/realms
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/dynamic_details
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/dynamic_photos
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/access_providers
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/img/hardwares
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/cake4/rd_cake/webroot/files/imagecache
